Tribute on the 90th anniversary of Lorca's visit to Tarragona.
This exhibition pays tribute to the great Catalan actress Margarida Xirgu, an essential figure in 20th century theatre and interpreter and friend of Federico García Lorca, within the framework of the 90th anniversary of the poet's visit to Tarragona.
The relationship between Xirgu and Lorca gave rise to some of the most brilliant milestones in modern theatre, such as Mariana Pineda, Yerma or Doña Rosita la soltera, where the poet's word and the actress's voice merged in the same spirit of freedom and passion for art.
The pieces on display - photographs, dedicated books, correspondence, a bracelet linked to her interpretation of Medea and a small iron sculpture - come from the personal collection of Esther Forgas, daughter of Margarida Xirgu's godson, to whom we sincerely thank for her generosity.
Through these objects loaded with history and affection, the visitor can delve into Xirgu's most intimate memory and rediscover the living imprint of an artist who gave voice, body and soul to Lorca's theatre and to universal culture.
